Threat actors favoured email as a gateway for attacks

  • Business email compromise (BEC) and funds transfer fraud (FTF) accounted for 58% of all claims

  • 52% of FTF claims originated as a BEC with an average loss of £83K

  • 71% of all FTF claims were a direct result of social engineering

RANSOMWARE

Ransom demands surged, but payouts are drying up

  • Globally, initial ransom demands surged 47% to an average of over $1M

  • 70% of ransomware events involved encryption and data exfiltration, often doubling incident cost

  • In the UK, 100% of clients were restored with no ransom demands needing to be paid

These high-level insights reflect global trends and are not specific to any single country or insurance product. All financial figures, unless noted, were converted from US Dollars to British Pounds (GBP) using a 1.35:1 conversion rate on 20 February 2026.
