Why We Launched Coalition Re

Why We Launched Coalition Re

When Coalition first launched in December 2017, our founding thesis was simple: “Cybersecurity is broken.” We saw how difficult it was for businesses to protect themselves from ever-changing cyber risks and envisioned a comprehensive insurance product that would meet those risks head-on.

Over the past seven years, we’ve worked tirelessly to execute that vision with Active Insurance, the first cyber defense offering that brings together active cyber risk assessment, proactive protection, expert response, and comprehensive cyber coverage.

Today, I’m proud to announce the official launch of Coalition Re, our standalone reinsurance offering. Coalition Re will allow us to expand on our mission of protecting the unprotected by providing capacity for both non-proportional cyber reinsurance treaties and white-labeled cyber insurance products.

The creation of our reinsurance intermediary is a major milestone in Coalition’s history. Not only is today’s news a testament to years of hard work and new discoveries across the cyber insurance industry but, much like Coalition’s founding story, it’s also born out of a larger market need.

Coalition Re empowers carriers to learn more about their cyber insurance policyholders and gain visibility into key sources of risk within their portfolios, while also providing cedants with access to a white-labeled product that includes Coalition’s full suite of risk mitigation tools and services.

Enabling better information sharing in reinsurance

Coalition Re is about more than simply adding capacity: We want to share our technology and expertise with carriers so they can better understand the cyber risk in their books.

Through first-hand experiences, we’ve seen how there’s often a breakdown of information in the reinsurance world. Whether it's due to a lack of cyber expertise or a mismatch of data shared between reinsurers, the end result is often mispriced reinsurance contracts and misinformation around cyber accumulation exposure — and we have the power to fix it.

Coalition Re empowers carriers to learn more about their cyber insurance policyholders and gain visibility into key sources of risk within their portfolios, while also providing cedants with access to a white-labeled product that includes Coalition’s full suite of risk mitigation tools and services.

The value and competitive advantages afforded by Coalition Re tie back to the core tenets of Coalition. As a root collector of data, we don’t simply rely on historical or third-party data to understand threat actor behaviors. For years, we’ve invested in continuous, internet-wide data collection, AI-enabled threat detection, and real-world security and insurance expertise — and now we’re leveraging this data to promote a more stable cyber reinsurance market.

Standing tall in the reinsurance world

Coalition Re is a new type of reinsurance provider. We believe that better communication will result in more strongly aligned interests with our cedants.

Coalition Re provides capacity for non-proportional cyber reinsurance treaties, as well as a white-labeled cyber insurance product with up to 100% quota share support for cedants seeking to offer cyber insurance as an endorsement to an existing insurance product offering. Both are supported by a robust panel of capacity providers led by Aspen, a leading specialty insurer and reinsurer.

Modern businesses choose Active Insurance because our comprehensive cyber coverage, innovative security tools, and world-class claims handling allow them to focus on growing their business with protection and greater peace of mind. As Coalition expands and evolves along with the cyber threat landscape, our commitment to protecting the unprotected remains unchanged.
